Volunteers from UT's ASCE student chapter, the largest of the civil engineering student organizations, are shown on their annual trip to New Orleans. They worked on the construction of new homes in Habitat for Humanity’s Musician’s Village in the Ninth Ward and gutted homes that suffered damage from hurricane Katrina.

Following is a list of relevant engineering organizations that may be of interest to you. Look at their sites, go to their meetings,and so find one that is right for you!

American Society for Engineering Education
ASEE, the American Society for Engineering Education, is a national organization that strives to improve and advance education in engineering and engineering technology. The Society does so by promoting excellence in instruction, research, public service, and practice; exercising worldwide leadership; fostering the technological education of society; and providing quality products and services to members.

Architectural Engineering Institute
The Architectural Engineering Institute at The University of Texas at Austin is a nationally affiliated student organization devoted to providing architectural and civil engineering students with a link of communication to companies. In addition to helping cultivate networks, AEI supplies engineering students with support for academics, opportunities for hands-on experience, and professional development in the engineering industry.

ASCE - Student Chapter
The American Society of Civil Engineers, founded in 1852, is the oldest professional engineering society in the United States. Since 1921, the ASCE student chapter at UT has provided an opportunity for civil and architectural engineering students to build academic, social, and professional relationships through a wide range of activities. From the bi-weekly meetings, social events, community volunteering, intramural sports, field trips, to technical competitions, the ASCE student chapter creates the perfect compliment for the academic experience in the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering department at UT.

ASCE Geo-Institute - Graduate Student Chapter
The University of Texas graduate student organization of the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers works to focus the talents and experiences of geotechnical engineering students to enhance awareness of the geotechnical engineering field and provide opportunities for learning and interaction.

Chi Epsilon
Chi Epsilon is the Civil Engineering Honor Society organized to recognize successful civil engineering students. Chi Epsilon seeks to develop in the student civil engineer the character necessary for the successful pursuit of a career in civil engineering.

Earthquake Engineering Research Institute-Student Chapter
The University of Texas at Austin chapter of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute is an interdisciplinary student organization concerned with the effects of earthquakes and earthquake hazard reduction.

Friends of Alec
Friends of Alec are UT Engineering alumni and friends dedicated to the advancement of engineering education at UT Austin.

Graduate Engineering Council (GEC)
The Graduate Engineering Council, or GEC, represents graduate students to the administration of the Cockrell School of Engineering (CSE) and the administration of the University of Texas at Austin. They represent student interests and objectives. They also organize programs that support the well being of the graduate engineers in the CSE.

Institute of Transportation Engineers
The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is a professional society of more than 15,000 transportation engineers, planners, and other professionals in some 80 countries. The Institute's members are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on streets, highways, and transit systems. Institute programs and resources include professional development seminars; technical reports; a monthly journal; local, regional, and international meetings; and other forums for the exchange of opinions, ideas, techniques, and research.

Intelligent Transportation Society
The Intelligent Transportation Society of America, better known as ITS America, is a forum in which industry, government, and academia meet to build consensus on fostering, developing, and deploying Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems. The society's mission is to help evolve a significantly safer, cleaner, more productive, and more competitive U.S. transportation system. To this end, the Society promotes public-private-academic partnerships and co-operations in the ITS community.

National Society of Black Engineers
The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.

Phi Alpha Epsilon
Phi Alpha Epsilon is the National Honor Society of Architectural Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

Pi Sigma Pi
Pi Sigma Pi Minority Academic Engineering Society strives to unite and increase the number of minority engineering students who succeed academically, lead professionally, and contribute passionately to their communities.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) is the leading social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math, and science. The Society strives to increased educational opportunities, promote professional and personal growth, and to carry out its social responsibility to be involved in education, business, and government issues and to enhance pride within its organization and reinforce its reputation as a vital Hispanic organization.

SEC Student Engineering Council
The Student Engineering Council helps provide a vital and necessary bond between the students of the Cockrell School of Engineering, its administration, and the professional world. Through career fairs, competitions, and other programs the Engineering Council teaches and communicates information about academic issues, professional topics, and general interests. By coordinating the activities of some 40+ professional and academic engineering societies, the Council helps to expand and strengthen the spirit and dedication of current students.

Tau Beta Pi
Tau Beta Pi has a rich history of "integrity and excellence in engineering." The Tau Beta Pi Association was founded in 1885 by a professor who wanted to recognize engineers.

Texas Society of Professional Engineers
Texas Society of Professional Engineers seeks to realize the following goals: (1) To improve every engineer's interpersonal communication skills within the College of Engineering at UT-Austin; (2) To promote the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) Exam and provide review materials so that all future UT Engineers will seek a PE (Professional Engineering) License and show a commitment to ethics and responsibility in the workplace; (3) To provide for professional development by recruiting speakers and providing networking opportunities for its members; and (4) To have fun.

Women in Engineering Program
The Women in Engineering Program (WEP) was established in 1992 to recruit and retain female engineering students, to increase the percentage of female engineering graduates, and to provide a supportive structure that encourages the success of women in the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT.
