The University of Texas at Austin is committed to providing a top quality
education to highly qualified students who wish to pursue graduate
studies in the department of
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering with a focus on the field of Ocean Engineering.
The ocean engineer of the present and future must not only have a strong
grasp of the principles in the related fields, but also be capable
of using and or developing sophisticated computational tools for
the design and assessment of engineered or natural systems.
Design of off-shore and near-shore structures; design of high-speed
ocean vehicles; study of oceanic and coastal zone processes.
To provide aspiring engineers in the above fields with the required
strong background in the basic principles, and sufficient familiarity with
up-to-date computational techniques which are directly applicable
to the design or assessment of engineered systems.
Introduction to ocean and coastal engineering, environmental fluid mechanics,
principles of hydrodynamics, physical oceanography, modeling of turbulent
flows, dynamic response of structures, fluid/structure interactions, computational
fluid mechanics, finite element methods, boundary element methods, design
of offshore structures, and soil/structure interactions. Other related
courses are offered in the departments of
Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace
Engineering and Engineering Mechanics.
The Computational Hydrodynamics
Laboratory, the Offshore Technology Research Center,
and the
Center for Research in Water Resources.
Apply to the EWRE (Environmental and Water Resources Engineering) program in the Dept. of Civil Engineering at UT Austin. State clearly your interest for an MS or PhD degree in the field of Ocean Engineering. In order to be considered for the ocean engineering studies you must apply to and be accepted by the EWRE program first. Depending on fund availability the best of the accepted applicants in EWRE/Ocean will be considered for financial aid. To request an application package send a short email with your complete mailing address to grad@mail.ce.utexas.edu. Acceptance to EWRE/OE is decided collectively by the EWRE Faculty.
Please refrain from emailing resumes and/or detailed grades and GRE scores to any EWRE faculty member. Note that the only way we can tell you if you will be accepted by OE/EWRE is AFTER you have officially applied to it, and after your complete application has been reviewed by ALL EWRE faculty members.
