Interests
Dr. Gloyna's teaching and research interests include industrial and municipal wastewater treatment and water quality management. Research interests extend from low-cost ponds/wetlands to complete oxidation of organic compounds via supercritical water oxidation. Emphasis is directed to the improvement of facilties, designs, and operations. Educational background in Environmental, Civil, and Chemical engineering and minors in Chemistry and Microbiology support these interests. Recent research topics involving supercritical water oxidation include kinetics of destruction, process modeling, solubilities of salts and precipitates in supercritical water, catalyst evaluations, solid/liquid separations, off-gas and by-product determinations, and process design.

Dr. Gloyna holds the Bettie M. Smith Chair in Environmental Health Engineering, he is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and the author of numerous books, papers, and patents.
