Research

Research is a vital part of what we do in Civil, Architectural and Evironmental Engineering (CAEE), both in terms of teaching engineering knowledge and skills and in terms of changing the world in which we live. Research is also one of the strengths of CAEE, and our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for their research efforts. For example, sixteen faculty members, eight of whom are actively teaching, are members of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), membership in which is the engineering profession's highest distinction.
The department is divided into six Technical Areas, representing the various disciplines of CAEE. In the Cockrell School of Engineering (CSE), laboratories are organized into Research Centers around common interests and goals (each Technical Area page lists its corresponding Research Centers). Most CAEE laboratories are located in either Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall (ECJ, see Visitors) or at the J. J. Pickle Research Campus, located about 9 miles north of the main UT campus (a shuttle route connects the two).
