CAEE graduate students are attracted to our diversity of research offerings and interdisciplinary programs, as well as the reputation of our outstanding faculty.
Ask someone what attracts them to a university, and you will get a variety of answers. At Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), current graduate students point to the department's culture and people who care about not only work but also other things in life. The students also point to the excellent research facilities, the quality teaching they experience, and the collegiality between students and faculty and between students working in one area and those working in another.
Mutual respect and valuing what everyone brings to the classroom or lab is important. At CAEE we recognize that prospective and current graduate students bring with them a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences and have much to offer any university they attend. We value our prospective and current graduate students and want you to know that we have much to offer you as well.
Rapidly expanding technology demands that an engineer have increased breadth and depth of knowledge. CAEE strives to give its students that knowledge as it educates the next generation of engineering leaders. We are dedicated to extending engineering knowledge across the breadth of the discipline and beyond through creative, innovative teaching and research ranging from the fundamental to the applied. Furthermore, our various Research Centers provide our graduate students the opportunity to go deep in their areas of interest.
The highly-ranked CAEE graduate programs offer opportunities in six Technical Areas, with more than 55 full-time faculty working in diverse areas of civil, architectural, and environmental engineering. In the fall of 2011, we enrolled 430 graduate students from all regions of the United States and from 37 countries around the world (women make up 28% of the graduate student population). With state-of-the-art facilities, the CAEE graduate program is designed to educate engineers who will be in the forefront of the profession in academia, civil service, or industry. Exploring websites is a great way to get information about and a feel for a university and department. Such information, of course, only goes so far.
