Creative, interdisciplinary approaches are needed to better understand and solve problems related to indoor environmental quality. The IGERT program will facilitate such approaches. In doing so, IGERT trainees will combine fundamental scientific principles within the context of indoor environmental systems having a substantial human dimension. The inter-connected nature of indoor environmental systems and importance of the human dimension are themes of the IGERT program. As future leaders in the field, an understanding of these issues will be important attributes of IGERT trainees.
