Accessing your File Space on AUSTIN DISK

A folder is available for each CAEE student and resides on the centralized file server AUSTIN DISK. The purpose of this folder is to provide a central location for students to keep files throughout their academic career. If you're logged into one of the workstations in the LRC, VDL, or the Student Lounge your folder is automatically mapped for you as the Z: Drive.

Windows XP/Vista\Win7 provides multiple ways to access your file space including:

Mapping

  • Right-click on "My Computer" or "Computer" depending on the operating system
  • Click "Map Network Drive..."
  • In the box labeled "Path:" or "Folder:" type \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\engrstu\CAEE\yourEID.
  • You will be asked for a username and password. In the username box type austin.utexas.edu\yourEID and in the password box type your UTEID password.
  • If you are using a machine NOT in the AUSTIN domain, you will first have to install the IPSEC certificate from BevoWare. Please see the following instructions for more information.
  • If you are OFF-CAMPUS, connect with VPN software that you install from BevoWare (Learn more about VPN.)

Secure FTP

  1. Download SSH 3.2.3 at no cost from BevoWare.
  2. Select Start, then All Programs. Select SSH Secure Shell, then Secure File Transfer Client.
  3. Select Quick Connect.
  4. In the Host name field, enter sftp.austin.utexas.edu.
  5. In the User name field, enter your UT EID.
  6. In the Port number field, enter 22.
  7. In the Authentication Method field, select password.
  8. Select Connect.
  9. If you are prompted to save a new host key to local database, answer Yes.
  10. Enter your UTEID password at the prompt.
  11. Once you have connected, browse to "Bulkmounts3/engrstu/CAEEt"  (Do NOT go to the top-level folder named with your UTEID).

For more information, please see the campus SFTP page.

WebDAV

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • From the File menu, select Open. If you are using Internet Explorer 7, press ALT to display the menu bar. You can display the menus permanently by clicking the Tools button and selecting Menu Bar.
  • In the Open field, enter the following URL, with your UTEID at the end of the line:
    https://webdav.austin.utexas.edu/bulkmounts3/engrstu/CAEE/yourEID
  • Select the checkbox labeled Open as Web Folder, then click OK.
  • When prompted for your user name and password, enter your UT EID and password.
  • Click OK.
The disk share containing your files opens in "folder view" inside Internet Explorer. You can work with files in this view just as you would with a mapped drive. (For example, you can drag-and-drop files from one location to another.)
  • When you have finished working with your files, you must exit from your browser, closing all browser windows. That terminates the connection in a way that prevents others from accessing your files.
