Using Email in the LRC: Outlook

Setting Up Outlook in the LRC
To retrieve your email using Microsoft Outlook in the LRC, follow the instructions below.
Step 1
Create a folder in your home directory on CIVIL\STU which will contain your email, calendar, contacts, etc.
Name it anything you like; in this example we will name the folder Outlook and place it in the home directory adstu1.

Step 2
Double-click the Microsoft Outlook
icon on the desktop.

Step 3
Click Tools > Email Accounts.

Step 4
Mark Yes and Click Next.

Step 5
In the window, select POP3 as your server type, and proceed by clicking Next.

Step 6
Enter the following information in this window
Server Information
Incoming mail (POP3): Enter mail.utexas.edu.
Outgoing mail (SMTP): Again, enter mail.utexas.edu.
User name: Enter your mail.utexas.edu email account name; in this example we have chosen to use student (i.e. student@mail.utexas.edu)
Password: Enter your mail.utexas.edu email account password.
*Note: Make sure to select Remember Password or you will be asked for a password each time you access or download your email.
Click on Next.

Step 7
You're Finished with the first part but you still need to set up your email so that it goes to your STU folder.

Step 8
Double click on the Outlook icon.

Step 9
When in Microsoft Outlook, click on Tools and then click on Email Accounts.

Step 10
Choose "View or change existing email accounts" and then click NEXT.

Step 11
In the 'Deliver new email to the following location:' section, click on the 'New Outlook Data File' button.

Step 12
Click OK

Step 13
Outlook will ask you to specify a drive where you would want your emails, addresses, calendar, contacts, etc. This will be your STU folder on 'civil.lrc.ce.utexas.edu'

Step 14
Select the folder that we created earlier. In the example we have named it Outlook. Then click Open and then OK.

Step 15
Name the folder what ever you wish to name it. In this example we named it Mailbox. Then click on OK and proceed.

Step 16
In the 'Deliver new email to the following location' select the folder you just created, in this case it's Mailbox.
Click Finish to complete the Microsoft Outlook Setup Wizard.

Step 17
If you see this notice, click OK, then quit Outlook so the changes take affect next time you start Outlook.

Step 18 (The following steps are optional.)
Go to Start: Settings: Control Panel and double click the Mail control panel.
Click the 'Data Files' button.

Step 19
Select the Personal Folders Data file and click Remove. DO NOT remove the one you just created (in this case, mailbox).
Click Close and then Close the Mail control panel.

You are now ready to check your email using Microsoft Outlook.

Warning: If you see this notice when you first run Outlook, simply click OK.
