Why are we instituting quotas for printing in the LRC?

The CE LRC has decided to implement printing quotas on all lab printers, this includes LRC_laser1, LRC_laser2, LRC_Laser3, LRC_Laser4, Color_Laser, Color_CD (the plotter), VDLPrinter, VDLColor, VDLPlotter, and STuLounge_Printer. This decision has been made partially in response to a survey, where many students expressed frustration about the printing situation. Unlimited printing capability for all students has led to a large amount of abuse, which in turn has severely decreased our ability to provide relatively equal user access to all printers. We are also reacting to an increased cost in printing, due to the introduction of laser printing in the LRC.
