Tips for Smart Printing
Print Preview
If your application has a print preview option, use it before you send a print command. For example, if you are using Microsoft Word, choose the File > Print Preview option. Partial Printing
If you can't preview the printed output of a large document onscreen, then print only a couple of pages before printing the rest of it. Set your page range to print only from page 1 to page 2. Check Printer Settings
- When the print dialog box is displayed, check the settings :
- Print the appropriate number of copies, usually just 1
- Print B&W monochrome. Color printing uses more printing credits.
- You may not want to print the entire file. If so, limit the range of pages to be printed, e.g., from pages 1 to 2 only.
Web Documents
- Use "Save As" under the File menu and save the web document to your home directory. You can then view the document when you need to rather than printing it.
- If you want to print just part of a Web document, you can cut and paste that part into another file and print it.
- Use Print Preview and print only the pages you need.
Color
Before you print in color, print a B&W test page first to check the layout. Do's and Dont's
- Do not leave your computer unattended, and be sure to log out when you are finished. If you fail to log out from a computer in the lab, the next person can print using your account.
- Learn how to cancel a print job.
- From the Start Menu, select Settings > Printers
- Double click on the desired printer.
- Select your print job and hit the delete key.
- Do not print binary files.
- When in doubt, ask a proctor for help.
