Impacts of Demographic Shifts in Metropolitan Areas on the Transportation Network

(PI: Chandra Bhat)

Personal and household-level demographic characteristics have a significant impact on an individual’s activity and travel choices. Due to the rapid changes occurring in the demographic composition of the metropolitan areas it is very important to examine the impact of the shift in demographics on activity-travel behavior. Studies in the past have stressed the significance of demographic attributes in travel demand modeling. However, these studies have addressed specific attributes of activity-travel patterns. The focus of this project was to develop a comprehensive model system to examine the impacts of changes in regional demographic characteristics on travel demand.
