Analysis and Modeling of Individual Activity-Travel Patterns During Weekends

(PI: Chandra Bhat)

The purpose of this project is to descriptively examine spatial and temporal travel characteristics during the weekends and to develop explicit travel forecasting methods for weekend travel. Such a systematic analysis of weekend travel is also important for mobile-source emissions forecasting; quantifying weekend travel is a critical input to the MOBILE6 emissions forecasting model. This project will examine weekend travel, with a specific emphasis on recreational activity participation, using the 2000 San Francisco Bay Area Travel Survey (BATS).

Keywords: Pure recreational activity episodes, weekend travel, in-home versus out-of-home substitution, non-motorized travel, activity analysis.
