Intercity Travel Demand Modeling

Increasing congestion in intercity travel, and the consequent adverse impacts of such congestion on economic development and environmental quality, has focused attention in recent years on identifying and evaluating alternative proposals to improve inter-city transportation services. An important issue in the evaluation and effective implementation of these proposals is the development of models which include policy-sensitive variables and which capture differences in intrinsic preferences and differences in sensitivity to level-of-service changes among different segment groups in the population. The emphasis in the ongoing research on intercity travel demand modeling is to formulate advanced econometric/mathematical models that capture the complex behavioral responses of intercity travelers to changes in service provision.
