Critical Review of Available Hydrologic Data for the Pantex Plant for Use in Exposure Pathway Analysis

by Lesley Hay Wilson

The objectives of this term project are:

Information sources include the extensive files for the Pantex Plant at the Center for Water Resources (CRWR) at the University of Texas at Austin, the available files from the Pantex Plant and their consultants and the hydrologic models currently in the CRWR network.

The evaluation of potential exposure pathways will take into account what is known about the operations of the facility and the potential future operations of the facility. The evaluation of the sufficiency of the data would include determining what is known and what is unknown about site conditions as the conditions relate to the physical and chemical processes of environmental transport. One transport mechanism will be studied in more detail. This is the air transport mechanism for which existing regional research models will be investigated. One model will be selected and will be run for several scenarios. The results using regional information will be compared to the existing site data.

It is envisioned that the results will include (1) identification of the likely exposure pathways to be evaluated in future research, (2) development of preliminary representations for the spatial variation of the site characteristics, (3) discussion of data needs for future fate and transport modeling, and (4) comparison of regional models for the air transport mechanisms to the site data.
