What is the application process?

Incoming First-Years
Admission to all majors in the Cockrell School of Engineering is competitive and automatic admission for eligible Texas applicants is restricted. For questions related to first-year student admissions, please contact the Office of Admissions.

External Transfers
Students currently enrolled at another college or university who want to apply for admission to a CAEE major at The University of Texas at Austin must apply for external transfer. For questions related to external transfer admissions, please contact the Office of Admissions.

Internal Transfers
Students currently enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin in another major who wish to change their major to civil, architectural or environmental engineering should follow the internal transfer instructions provided by the Cockrell School of Engineering.

Financial Support
Applicants can apply for engineering scholarships and financial support. Cockrell School undergraduates received more than $10 million in merit-based awards this past year, including awards for first-year and current students. UT Austin recommends a completed FAFSA to be considered for available university scholarships.
See The Forty Acres
Learn about becoming an engineer at a Cockrell School information session. The Office of Admissions also organizes campus-wide sessions, including virtual visits and campus tours.
Note: Students under the age of 18 who haven’t been admitted to UT must be accompanied to campus visits by a parent or guardian.
If you are unable to attend a session, CAEE Academic Advisors in ECJ 4.200 can also talk with prospective students and their families about what it is like to be a UT Austin CAEE student.
