In evaluating a student's application to the geotechnical engineering graduate program, the geotechnical faculty will consider all aspects of the student's credentials. This includes the reputation of the schools from which prior degrees were earned, academic performance in those programs, scores on entrance examinations, references, and the applicant's stated goals. Exceptional applicants seeking the Ph.D. degree can be admitted directly to the Ph.D. program without completing a master's degree.

While each applicant is considered individually, we do have some general expectations for students admitted to the graduate program in geotechnical engineering. However, meeting these minimum expectations, as summarized below, does not ensure admission to the program.

All international students are required to submit a valid TOEFL score unless they received their bachelor's degree from an English speaking country. International applicants admitted to the program usually have a TOEFL score of at least 600 (written exam) or 250 (computer exam).
