The Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin has once again been named one of the nation’s top engineering schools.
In the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report rankings, Texas Engineering came in as the 11th best undergraduate engineering program in the nation (No. 6 among public universities and No. 1 in Texas).
Six specialty programs landed in the top 10 with one in the top five (petroleum and geosystems engineering). Nine programs landed in the top 20.
There are more than 6,000 students currently enrolled in the Cockrell School’s 11 undergraduate degree programs, where they participate in hands-on, team-based projects solving real-world problems.
Cockrell School undergraduate degree program rankings for 2022-2023 are:
- Petroleum Engineering, No. 2
- Civil Engineering, No. 7
- Environmental Engineering, No. 7
- Computer Engineering, No. 8
- Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering, No. 9
- Chemical Engineering, No. 9
- Electrical/Electronic/Communications Engineering, No. 11
- Mechanical Engineering, No. 12
- Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, No. 13
In addition to the engineering program rankings, UT Austin checked in at No. 10 among national public universities and remains the top public university in Texas. Overall, the university placed No. 32 among national public and private universities.
The university also ranked highly in several specialty categories, including: undergraduate research (No. 15), best universities for veterans (No. 16) and “Most Innovative Schools,” (No. 16).
The U.S. News ranking is one of the most widely referenced measurements of undergraduate programs nationally and is based on 19 key measures, such as graduation rates and student outcomes, faculty resources, expert opinions, financial resources and student excellence.
