The Southwest Region University Transportation Center (SWUTC) recently announced the winning students for the 2014 SWUTC Student Awards competition.

Meredith Cebelak, a transportation engineering student at University of Texas at Austin, is the winner of the Dr. William J. Harris Award for Outstanding PhD Student. As a graduate assistant, she is investigating the use of intelligent transportation system (ITS) solutions to address transportation needs in the Texas Department of Transportation’s Austin District.

She also has over ten years of experience in the private sector in the intelligent transportation systems and traffic engineering fields. Her innovative work involving smartphone check-in applications to help understand travel frequency behavior was also recently recognized at the ENO Conference in Washington, DC.

The SWUTC student awards were established at the Texas A&M University System in October 1988. The awards are presented annually by the SWUTC and each comes with a $1,000 cash prize.
