Lewis Stetson Rowles III

My interest is to gain experience as a researcher and educator working with nanomaterials for drinking water treatment for low-income communities throughout the world. Under the guidance of my advisors, Dr. Navid Saleh and Dr. Desmond Lawler, I have completed the M.S. degree on a fundamental research project on incorporation of advanced nanomaterials into ceramic for point-of- use water filters. My Ph.D. dissertation aims to determine key driving factors for water use in selected low-income communities in the United States and in Southern Mexico, develop a quantitative framework for assessment of water needs, follow appropriate design strategies to improve functionalities and social acceptance of a popular water treatment technology (i.e., ceramic water filters) by integrating a local and culturally-significant material (i.e., pinyon rosin), and decipher underlying mechanisms of functional ceramic water filters.

Currently I am working on following projects:
»nanomaterial enabled ceramics for drinking water filters
»studying social drivers relating to water in low-income communities
