Dr. Desmond F. Lawler has been selected as the recipient of the Dr. John L. Leal Award by the American Water Works Association.

The award recognizes those whose careers in the water industry demonstrates improvements in water quality and protecting public health. Recipients exemplify characteristic of John Leal’s courageous leadership for advancing society.

The American Water Works Association is an international, scientific and educational organization devoted to providing total water solutions assuring the effective management of water resources.

Dr. Desmond Lawler has dedicated 39 years of service to the University of Texas where his research and teachings in water treatment have provided the foundation for protecting our public health.

His research focuses on the removal of particles through modern membrane processes as well as through conventional processes such as flocculation, settling, and granular media filtration.

The award will be present to Dr. Lawler during the Opening General Session on Monday, June 10th, 2019 at American Water Works Association Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) in Denver, Colorado.
