Careers

Civil, architectural and environmental engineers are recruited and hired by top engineering companies from around the world. The Texas CAEE department hosts an Industry Open House each year, which gives students the opportunity to learn about the many career paths within the fields of civil, architectural and environmental engineering. Practicing engineers from a variety of technical backgrounds are invited to share information about careers in industry, consulting, construction, research, government, education and more. Additional networking and career opportunities are also provided by the Engineering Career Assistance Center (ECAC).

Internships

Civil, architectural and environmental engineering students are strongly encouraged to seek out internships. Through internships, students can gain significant technical experience in industry before graduation. Students can also earn a salary, enhance their engineering education, explore career interests, network with employers and become familiar with the corporate work environment. Students who have industry experience on their resumes often have a competitive advantage when searching for permanent employment after graduation.

Our students have completed internships at the companies listed below and many more:

  • Big Red Dog Engineering
  • Chevron
  • ExxonMobil
  • Frito-Lay

Engineering Career Assistance Center (ECAC)

In the Engineering Career Assistance Center (ECAC), students are guided through the recruitment process with career counseling and workshops to help develop resumes, interviewing and job-search skills. Throughout the year, ECAC hosts employers and recruiters for student interviews, career fairs and information sessions. During their academic careers at UT, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through externships, co-ops and internship positions to help prepare them for full-time employment after graduation.
