Dr. Chandra Bhat has been elected president of the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) during the virtual summer meeting held on June 9-10, 2020. The CUTC Summer Meeting attracts the nation’s leading transportation professionals from academia and industry along with U.S. DOT and other transportation agency officials. Dr. Bhat will serve as President for one year, until June 2021.

The CUTC was established in 1979 by the major transportation research centers and institutes in the U.S. to provide a forum for educators and researchers to interact with government and industry. CUTC's mission is to promote university research, education, workforce development, and technology transfer as essential to the nation’s transportation system.

Dr. Bhat is the Joe J. King Chair in Engineering and current Director of the Data-Supported Transportation Operations and Planning (D-STOP) Tier 1 USDOT University Transportation Center. At UT Austin, he teaches courses in transportation systems analysis and transportation planning and is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading expert in the area of travel demand modeling and travel behavior analysis.
