What Role Transportation Innovations Can Play in Next Generation Urban Living

Abstract:

The presentation will examine a vision of how emerging innovations in urban transportation can have far-reaching impacts on urban living by ushering in a new wave of economic prosperity and improved quality of life.

 

About the Speaker:

Kumares C. Sinha is the Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil and Construction Engineering at Purdue University. A globally recognized leader in transportation systems, Dr. Sinha has dedicated more than five decades to advancing research, education, and professional practice in the field.

He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1968 and began his academic career at Marquette University before joining Purdue University in 1974. Over the years, he has held visiting and honorary appointments at several prestigious institutions, including MIT, IIT-Roorkee, the University of Central Florida as Lockheed Martin Guest Professor of Engineering, and Texas A&M University as a Hagler Fellow and Eminent Scholar in Residence.

Dr. Sinha has mentored numerous master’s, doctoral, and post-doctoral students across the globe, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of civil and transportation engineers. His service includes appointments to the Executive Committee of the Transportation Research Board and the Advisory Council of the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. He also served as a long-time consultant to the World Bank, contributing his expertise to transportation projects worldwide.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the profession, Dr. Sinha has been named an Honorary Member of both the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and he is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
