The UT experience is not solely about learning at a top-tier program, it is also about building relationships and enjoying one's time while in college. With many different events and programs available, Austin ranks among the "best" places to live.

The geotechnical engineering program's history began in the 1930's, where it grew today to be recognized as one of the best programs in the nation. UT-Austin has attracted some of the brightest minds to teach and perform research, leading the program at the forefront of geotechnical engineering. In addition, former faculty have gone on to become a National Science Foundation director and head of civil engineering. For more about the program, click here.

Life in Austin is what sets UT-Austin apart from other colleges. Backdropped by the Texas Capital Building, Austin features "Tex-Mex" and is often referred to as the "Live Music Capital of the World." In addition, there are numerous recreational activities available, from canoeing through the city on Town Lake to intramural sports (soccer, football, etc.) to a large gymnasium with an extensive array of exercise equipment.
