Revolutionary Design brings Success

We centered our canoe’s story around themes of the American Revolution as a reflection of the spirit of competition and teamwork that we incorporated into every step of the construction process.

Triumph on Proctor Lake

Our canoe successfully passed the swamp test, remaining afloat thanks to a lightweight concrete mix. We will continue to set our sights on creating lightweight mixes while maximizing material strength for future canoes.

A Night to Remember

After months of hard work, collaboration, and growth, the team came together to celebrate at the awards banquet. The event marked a meaningful close to the year, highlighting both technical achievements and team spirit.

The Competition

Races

There are five total races: women's sprint, men's sprint, women's endurance, men's endurance, and the coed race. Each race demonstrates both the canoe's speed and maneuverability, as well as the strength of the paddle team. Interested in paddling? Reach out to a captain to learn how you can get involved!

Design Paper

The design paper is a technical report that encapsulates all of our processes and calculations. From scheduling to structural calculations, we detail everything we have worked on for the past year concisely and convincingly for the judges to review.

Oral Presentations

This is the team's opportunity to showcase our technical innovation and the effectiveness of our construction process in just a few minutes. Each year, we strive to create an engaging presentation that captures the judges' attention and fully communicates our commitment to success.

Final Product

The final product includes a themed display, samples of all materials we used, prints of our reports, and, of course, the canoe itself. During the the competition final displays of competing universities are arranged alongside each other for the judges to review.

What We Do

Hull Design

To ensure the canoe has the optimal hydrodynamic design, we utilize CAD software and physical prototype testing.

Mix

Our concrete floats on its own! The utilization of light-weight aggregates and admixtures to produce a light-weight, strong, and workable concrete is one of the main engineering obstacles that the team has to overcome.

Structural Analysis

We use a combination of software and traditional hand calculations to ensure the canoe has the structural capacity to allow safe travel for our paddle team during the competition races.

Construction

In addition to building the canoe itself, our construction process also includes the building of the mold and cart we use to transport our canoe. We use various shop tools to help our visions come to life while prioritizing safe handling and PPE.

Aesthetics Team

Our the Aesthetics Team is in charge of bringing our theme to life through a physical display at symposium that includes props and custom-made decor that show off what makes our team unique and ties the whole project together with style.

Paddle Team

To give our canoe the best chance at victory during the races, we hold tryouts for paddlers each fall. Selected paddlers will train at Lady Bird Lake on weekends. Please reach out to a captain if you are interested!
