2025 was our very first year competing at the ASCE Frontier regional competition, and we are proud to have been awarded Honorable Mention. This award recognizes the determination, teamwork and dedication of our newly found design competition team.
Symposium 2026 will be held in Corpus Christi!
Students work to design and build a sustainable, compartmentable two-story wooden structure. As part of the competition, students can gain experience creating BIM models and using woodshop equipment such as drills, saws, and hammers. Students also get to apply technical skills for structural design calculations and the report. At competition we will be graded on how quickly we can assemble our structure, the accuracy of our structural calculations and report, and how well the cantilever beam on the structure can withstand weight.
During the fall semester students work on the technical report, which includes the BIM model, design plans, carbon emission calculations, budget, and structural calculations. At this time we also begin training students on how to use workshop equipment and start the prefabrication of our structure.
During the spring semester our team finalizes prefabricating the walls, practices assembling the structure, creates a visual aid to showcase our design, and films a presentation demonstrating our year of hard work. In April, our team will attend Symposium where our builders are given 90 minutes to assemble the 2-story structure out of our prefabricated wall, floor, and roof panels.
After competing at Symposium, the team will work together to deconstruct the structure and donate all the materials used to help minimize waste and environmental impact.
We are a group of students who compete in the annual ASCE Timber Strong Design Build competition, showcasing our skills in sustainable design, structural analysis, and construction. Our team works together to design and build a small-scale wood structure using real-world engineering practices. Whether you are into engineering design, hands-on building, or artistic creativity, there is a place for you on the team!
Learn Revit, an essential tool used in all fields of Civil Engineering. Mastering it here will benefit you across your career!
We construct a two-story wooden structure by prefabricating the structure into separate wall, floor, and roof panels for quick and easy assembly at symposium. Our build team turns design plans into reality—cutting, assembling, and erecting the full-scale structure right here on campus before building it at the ASCE Symposium. It is a hands-on way to gain real construction experience and bring engineering concepts to life.
Here you can express your artistic side with the Timber Strong structure. After choosing a theme for the year, we design and hand-paint panels to bring that vision to life. It is a fun, creative way to showcase school spirit and make our structure stand out at Symposium.
