Visualization of flow around cylinder inside UT's flume (mp4 file). Neutrally buoyant silver-coated glass particles (of 50 microns= 1/20 of mm diameter each) are dispersed in the water, and can follow the fluid flow. Their trajectories (path-lines) are illuminated through a thin sheet of green light, which is created by a laser (part of UT's Particle Image Velocimetry - PIV - system)

Simulation of flow around cylinder subject to uniform inflow, using UT/OEG's VISVE method (mp4 file) (the released vorticity into the flow is shown in color)
Two movies (mp4 files) showing the vorticity calculated by UT/OE's viscous flow method NS-2D for an FPSO hull subject to roll motions: without and with bilge keels. >>>> What is an FPSO hull? What are roll motions? What are the bilge keels? click here to see the answers. Please note that in the results, shown in the two movies above, the vorticity is zero (green color), everywhere in the flow-field (including close to the free-surface), EXCEPT close to the solid boundaries. In the latter case the vorticity detaches from the bigle keels and is carried away from the body by the local flow.

Justification for applying the KBC on the free surface at z=0 instead of at z=eta (NOT covered in class; for those who are not convinced!)
Why we take the Bernoulli constant to be equal to zero? (NOT covered in class; for those who do not believe it!)
Rigorous proof of the linearized DBC on the free surface of a wave (NOT covered in class; for those who are interested)
